(endangered species)
Etheostoma chermocki

The Vermilion Darter is found in the upper stretches of Turkey Creek, a tributary of the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River, and nowhere else in the world. The Vermilion Darter can be found in moderate to swift currents in streams of alternating riffles and pools. Adults reach sizes of 1.8 to 2.4 inches or 45 to 60 millimeters.
Sedimentation from uncontrolled urban expansion threatens the preferred habitat of this endangered species.
